I Get Around: More Travel Plans Announced

Hey guys!

So, I’m running around like crazy for the rest of the summer, hitting up towns I’ve been to before as well as entirely new and awesome places. I’ll be driving for quite a bit of these adventures, so if you want me to come put a hurt on your community, now’s the time to say something. I drive like a trucker, and NOTHING is too far out of the way. Seriously. I’ll go to Alaska for a tweetup as long as I get a free sandwich or something.

First Stop: Boulder, CO
Tomorrow in the middle of the friggin’ night, I’m going to the airport, though. My one flight this summer is to Boulder, CO for a weekend trip to hang out with the one, the only: Micah Baldwin. He’s a-mazing. Smart. Hilarious. Emotionally intuitive in a way that makes other people (myself included) seem like a bunch of devolved pigs. I’ll be hanging out with him until Sunday.

Next Stop: Toledo, OH
Next, on July 5, I’m leaving Virginia to spend some time with my amazing friends in Toledo, chief of whom is Mark Pannell. We’re working on a few awesome events together, and from these events will spring, not simply more events, but real honest-to-god projects and initiatives. I’m so excited about this trip, I could just lose it.

Next Stop: Twiistup 6, LA, CA
I’m then going to buzz to LA to cover Twiistup 6, now scheduled to be a 2-day event of startup Showoffs and awesome speakers. It takes place July 30-31. I have a ton of work to do and people to see there, but I can only stay for the show, because then I’m off for…

Next Stop: DEFCON, Las Vegas, NV
OMG! DEFCON! H4X0RZ!!!11!1 I’m really excited about covering this conference. I’ll also be seeing my superfriend Dan Spisak while I’m there, which will be August 1-2.

Although I’ll probably be stopping in Boulder, Omaha, and maybe a few other on-the-way spots, I’ll be heading back to Virginia for a little while. But there’s not much rest for the weary; I’ll have time to catch up on laundry and gossip with my sister, then I’m off again to cover…

Next Stop: Gnomedex, Seattle, WA
The Holy Grail of my spring/summer conference season, Gnomedex, where I will, in all likelihood, get to meet the amazing, incomparable Chris Pirillo, someone whose work I’ve admired from afar for a good coupla years. Once Gnomedex ends on August 22, I’m fully expecting to be so mindblown I can only return to the bosom of my family and post video blogs in stunned silence for at least a week. Except, I’ve been reminded, I need to visit…

Next Stop: Portland, OR
My actual birthplace and residence until I turned 2, location of the erstwhile family farm, and beloved home to several of my RWW crew members. I really, really like Portland, and I’m looking forward to meeting my coworkers in person. Wow. You actually can’t imagine how excited I am about that. I’ve met several people working for everyother  major tech blog, yet I’ve never once met any of my RWW crew. I’m friggin stoked like a steam engine.

It’s been mentioned that I should probably head to SF/PA at some point over the summer, like say, July 10. And I also need to visit my bros in New York, like say, Oz Sultan. But I may end up playing fast and loose on some of those travel ideas.

Please, please, if you want me to come visit you, just leave a comment here! I love meeting new people, and I love seeing new startup/social media scenes in different parts of the country. The RoadTwip was a great experience for my cohorts and me, but ideally, that’s what I want my whole life to be like right now. Fortunately, it’s kinda shaping up that way anyhow.

Also, if you want me to cover your conference, in writing or in videos, for ReadWriteWeb, just email me. So far this year, I’ve done journalism coverage of South by Southwest, Web 2.0 Expo, Startup Weekend SF, Internet Week NYC, BIG Omaha, and at least a dozen local, one-day events. You’ll love what I can do on a press pass and a couple free sandwiches.

Love you guys! See you soon!

  • No Portland? Seriously? ReadWriteWeb’s home away from home? *sniff*

  • I know! I am so going to Portland on my way home from Gnomedex. I need to see my peeps, my homies, my CREW. Plus, I want to see Marshall’s beard in person. And like, light a candle in front of it or something. It’s kind of a big deal.

  • Thanks for tweeting about my post, haha.

If you stop by SF this summer, I’d love to meet you! :)

  • Wow, that’s a full looking travel agenda. And here I’ve been reading your blog this week and wondering if you would ever find yourself a little more north in the DC/Baltimore area or even in Philly on a weekend.

  • When you’re in Seattle, would you be willing to have dinner with me and my 20-year-old daughter? She’s in her first “real” summer job, actually helping to define social media strategy for a local Seattle non-profit–heady stuff for a kid just finished with her freshman year in college. I’d like her to meet you as a professional “role model”, since journalism in this area is one possible career goal for her. Anyway, it’d be more than a “free sandwich”! :) Message me back through BrightKite or Twitter. @pktm

  • Would you be interested in attending the CFUnited conference on 8/12-8/15 in Leesburg, VA? It is a pretty large event for developers/designers who use Adobe products like ColdFusion, Flex and AIR.

I could help hook you up with a press pass if you are interested in covering the event. Adobe usually uses the event to make some interesting announcements and/or launch new versions. And you’d get to hang out and chat with some hardcore geeks like me and my buddies :)

Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll put you in touch with the organizers.

  • Bah! July 10th is Tattooleetup. You gots to be here for that. It’s gonna be awesomesauce!

  • Jolie,
How can we work Bozeman, Montana into your summer tour? Mind blowing experiences await you… Yellowstone Park, horseback riding, fly fishing and http://www.schedulicity.com. Perfect, passionate company for your blog… The latter being the real carrot. Also, would love to make a pitch for you to cover Venture Capital in the Rockies. http://www.vcirfall.com/
